The hate I see for zoro seems more based at the "anime troupes" than his actual character

(like any subculture gone from obscurity to popularity, the subculture becomes toxic when the original fan base lashes out at the fact that their "personally defining thing that makes them unique" is no longer something that makes them "unique" so unable to articulate this without being obvious about the fact they simply don't like other people they rant about how character types are too common or how plot devices are used too often.

Personally i will always favor a cute female character over a male character due to the fact I don't really like violence against women (esp cute women who stand for all that's good and cake related)

But in this battle it's fair to say zorro had this, esp as he is a pirate that is not above killing, while erza is a character that will fight with all she has but to save the person she fights and won't kill a human being.

PS: the funny side note is that if this were to happen in the one piece world erza would likely find herself with armament haki simply from her strength of will and even if that was not enough sanji would be the first of the straw hat group to break rank and turn on zorro to ensure a erza win

But this is death battle and these things don't make an impact (even if it would be great to see goku use kryptonite/instant transmission/rip superman's head off on superman just for the fun of it) :-)

Natsu vs Sasuke? I wonder if Natsu would be able to eat the flames of Amaterasu. If he can, would they be better than the Flames of Rebuke and how much would they boost his power? Natsu vs Naruto would be good too since both get way stronger when angry.

Okay, I got a little angry when I first watched this. Let me try to make myself known a little bit better.
I don't think this Death Battle was wrong. While I think it would have been closer if they had gotten all of their facts straight, there's really no way that Erza could have beaten Zoro. There's a reason he's listed as an example for the trope Showy Invincible Hero.
But that's not my point. My point is that this battle does the same thing to Fairy Tail fans (like me) that Goku vs. Superman did to Dragon Ball Z fans. It was the character with more development and personality vs. the character who couldn't have lost no matter which way you looked at it. And I'm just gonna say it: Erza is a way, WAY better character than Zoro. And with regards to the gratuitous mockery I got from One Piece fans after my first, poorly-phrased comment, I don't hate Zoro because Erza lost. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Erza as a character (and not just because I agree with Watchmojo.com listing her as the second hottest anime woman next to Boa Hancock; I'm looking at you, Raxxel! Wankbait my ass... 9_9). She is heroic, she's quirky, she's disciplined, she's as much of a role model for fictional female characters as Marie Curie is for women in real life. While I concede that Erza is my waifu, I view her with respect that perverts would label as feminism.

No, this isn't about how much I hated to see Erza murdered brutally (I blew off all my steam from that in my first comment).

This is my "Reason you Suck" Speech for Roronoa Zoro. The dude embodies my least favorite hero archetype (another good example is Qrow from RWBY).

1.) He is a badass that is painted as being damn-near unbeatable. And he's gotten so used to it that he carries himself with an air of smug self-assurance. It gives him a vibe that equates to a sign hanging from his neck that says "I can do no wrong". If this were taken any farther, I would accuse him of being a God-Mode Sue. But that wouldn't be fair, even for Zoro. Be that as it may, I can't think about this aspect of Zoro's character without wishing that an episode of One Piece would take the time and effort to give him a much-needed taste of humility. They did it to Yang at the end of RWBY's third season. So why can't they do that with Zoro? Oh wait...

2.) Zoro's badassery is one of the only things his character relies on for gaining the audience's favor. In other words: if Zoro wasn't so awesome, One Piece fans would hate him. He'd be like an unfunny, less talkative version of Dan Hibiki. What more is there to his character? When he isn't training or fighting, he's either sleeping, drinking (I'll get to that in a moment) or being a boring stoic like Ren (another RWBY character that I personally find more likable). Speaking of his personality...

3.) When Zoro isn't being a boring stoic or spouting off tired-and-true cliches about his True Companions (or nakama as they're known in Japan), he's a prick to everyone but his nakama... unless the audience will dislike him for it (e.g. children, the elderly, pets, etc.). And even if he does play the hero, that doesn't really fix anything. Mario is a hero, and his games depict him acting like a sociopath (I didn't say he is, I'm saying he acts like one; just look up the Game Theory video series "Mario is Mental"). Dante from Devil May Cry is a hero, and he wouldn't exactly be out of character for neglecting the life of any of his targets (again, he wouldn't care for the right price). Do I even need to prove that good deeds don't necessarily make somebody a good person? We see that all the time in fiction and real life alike. You judge a person's moral compass by their character (who they are free of accountability). And frankly, Zoro's character is piss-poor. It may be justified, but that only counts as an excuse for so long. Life isn't all about you, Zoro. The adulation of millions of fans shouldn't excuse you from murdering an innocent woman for trying to bring you to justice. Nor should stopping a civil war excuse the fact that you're a wanted criminal. If you were a normal person on the other side of the fourth wall, everyone would think you were a lazy douche. You're no longer acting like a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. In keeping with the decline with One Piece's quality as a narrative, you've devolved into a Jerk Sue. You are among the proud and powerful that Rick Riordan's iteration of Nemesis loves to tear down (Mark of Athena reference).

4.) This reason is more of a cherry-on-top kind of thing. I know that things like this don't get as much flak in an anime, but Zoro is an alcoholic, and yet that is never shown to debilitate him in any way. This shouldn't have to be the case. Three characters in Fairy Tail (Cana, Wakaba and Bacchus) show accurate depictions of strong characters with vices. It's really not that hard. Even Qrow does a better job at this by being a Drunken Master. This only contributes to the shades of Karma Houdini I described in #1.

THIS is why I hate Roronoa Zoro. I when I look at him, I see the same thing that Harry Potter fans see when they look at Dolores Umbridge - an unlikable and frequently untouchable character that desperately needs to be knocked down a few pegs.

The worst part is that this character type doesn't have to be done poorly. Sans from Undertale fits this character type very well (minus the jerkassery). And Sans is one of the most popular characters in Undertale. He's known for making jokes, slacking off, giving Chara a bad time, and being a pretty nice guy. Zoro? Unless you watch One Piece and pick up the bias that comes from your enjoyment of the show, all you could really know Zoro for is drinking, sleeping, fighting and being awesome. It makes me sad and angry to see so much wasted potential in a character. That's why I love Erza so much: she succeeds as a character in all the places that Zoro has failed.

Now, would you people please stop trolling me and actually think about what I just said? Nothing is more obnoxious than an opinionated fanboy that doesn't think through their fandom.

I had never seen an episode of Fairy Tail when I watched this for the first time but a few days ago I started watching because of this video (and because I found out that Michael was in the dub). I'm actually watching episode 74 as I type this, but already I completely agree with you. When Erza is first introduced she seems like the typical "Strongest fighter in (enter group here)" who shows no emotion, follows orders to the letter, and always finishes the job. The only way I can think of to put it simply is a super strict asshole that no one can stand up to because there'd be nothing left to scrape off the pavement when she's done with them. BUT after only 73 episodes she's transformed into one of my favorite characters in the whole anime, I wouldn't say SECOND to Gray but for some reason I can't quite put my finger on I really like him too. He kinda reminds me of what Sasuke would kinda be like if he chilled the fuck out and didn't leave the village to become a complete emo, loner fuck stick. I've never really followed One Piece, I don't know why but something about it just kinda doesn't sit right, same with One Punch Man. They just seem kinda, as my mother would say, "Silly," but your description of Zoro to someone outside the One Piece fandom hit the nail right on the head. I'm shocked to find someone else on the internet that actually does their research, although I can guarantee that you do more than me, and uses correct spelling and grammar, give or take a few errors on my end. I'd love to hear your thoughts on a death battle between Natsu and Sasuke. If Natsu could actually eat the Amaterasu he'd be damn near unstoppable. Amaterasu flames must be more powerful than the Flames of Rebuke, and since Natsu's immune to fire, or at least near immune as I understand it, would Amaterasu flames affect him?

@xMotoX74 Sasuke vs Natsu, huh? I'm gonna be honest, I gotta go with Natsu. The guy has eaten and gained power from things that should have poisoned him. Multiple times! And that includes things other than fire, like lachrymas and even lightning. The Amaterasu would probably burn his throat like whiskey, but he could take it. I won't spoil anything for you, but Fairy Tail's story eventually explains how Natsu is able to do all the impossible sh** he does. But I will give you a really vague hint: he's not human.

Once you've watched/read Fairy Tail past the Tartaros arc, and have seen Natsu in action after the one-year time-skip that ensues, you would probably agree that Natsu stomps. Besides, Natsu is able to beat someone else with the power to predict his moves. If you haven't seen it yet, I won't spoil it. But it happens.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. As far as I can tell the only thing Natsu doesn't have an answer for is Sasuke's Sharingan illusions and possibly his Susano'o. In theory Amaterasu could also possibly be an infinite source of flames for him to eat too. Since Amaterasu burns until the target is killed, if Sasuke targets and hits him with it and they happen to have an unlit torch or something handy, they could light the torch from the flames on Natsu's body before he eats them. Now they have a never ending torch of Amaterasu to light other stuff on fire to create more Amaterasu for Natsu to eat and kick ass. I've been binging the hell outta Fairy Tail and now I'm on Episode 13 of the 2014 series. I actually had this video come up as recommended for me on YT today and it got me thinking. Since Kakashi has lightning natured chakra, he could be a good match for Laxus. Natsu, Sting, and Gajeel taking on the original team 7, Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto, would be pretty badass to. Although in my opinion Fairy Tail's success would rely on either Natsu being stronger than Naruto, which at the point I'm at in Fairy Tail doesn't seem to likely since Naruto has Sage mode and Kurama Link Mode, or all three of them some how combining their power and focusing on taking Naruto down first because if either Sasuke or Sakura fall first Naruto would get pissed and it'd be over. We need a Fairy Tail / Naruto Shippuden Death Battle!!! xD

@xMotoX74 Fairy Tail vs. Naruto? In that case, it would have to be Naruto vs. Natsu. Those two have so much in common, it's scary. The only really glaring difference is that Natsu specializes in using fire whereas Naruto's skill set is more well-rounded. Considering the stuff that Natsu winds up doing (especially after the Tartaros Arc), that would be something to see. Still, despite how strong Natsu gets, I honestly don't think he would survive Six Path Sage Mode. That has got to be one of the most absurd "Super Sayan" power-ups ever conceived. Hell, Naruto could probably go toe-to-toe with Acnologia at that level of power.

Very thought out: especially the ending summary. One crucial thing left out was that Zoro fought " Daz Bones - a person who could literally turn his body to steel blades "... Although Zoro managed to beat him, in the process of that, showed his ability to surpass his own abilities.

can't wait to see who Deadpool will be fighting.

it be nice to see a death battle between Lavernius Tucker and Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, Catwoman, a Xenomorph Queen, one or two Monster Nurses from the Silent Hill, Yang Xiao Long from RWBY,

    Freelancers Connecticut and South Dakota.

    him vs about eight girls,

it be cool if Yang Xiao Long turned on the other girls and ended up teaming with Tucker.

Deadpool is really awesome by the way.

I know it is not a point of DeathBattles – I am just dissapointed by the character-portrail:

Erza is extremely humble. Her spouting "this is true strenght" is unlikely of her. So is the "you are coming with me"... Also her being so agressive and iniciative in fight - she developed very sophisticated strategy of "wait-test-analyze" fighting, that she tought Natsu. Why would she suddenly be all this "attack-attack-more-attack" is baffing.
This is not Erza - the serious combatant that respects her opponent and thinks little of herself.

Zoro was more spot-on. (Maybe because he is just a Marimo-Head). On the other hand he is not this much of a mouth-talk during a fight. And not so cocky. His line about "true strenght nonsense" is actually good... but he is usually extremely focused during fights and leaves his comments after he deals a final blow.
He usually only comments inside his head - having inner thoughts about what his happening.

Don't take me wrong, I like the outcome. I am just a huge fan of One Piece and Fairy Tail. Although Zoro is not depicted that bad... this was just not Erza.
(But a cocky female character too proud of her skills that led her to her fall. Erza is strong and deeply described character, just as Zoro, and deserves far better depiction than this.)

I was looking forward for duel of two excellent fighters (both are the best in their respected Universe) which are both model warriors with their skill and with their behavior.

But I understand DeathBattle is about compering the power, not about depicting characters. So even despite this I was quite satisfied.

As much as I hate One Piece and absolutely love Fairy Tail. I just can't bring myself to argue the outcome. Yeah Erza is capable of some absolutely awesome feats but her limits are way more defined than anything put out by Zoro. The only gripe I have is the lack of her Nakagami Armor which, lets face it Zoro could have just out done that anyways.

But when I heard that Erza has Adamantite armor I got worried, usually cause in most fantasy games, Adamantite and Orichalcum are the strongest ores. I'm a fan of One Piece and Fairy Tail! Also I've been researching them for a very long time; so I can tell this is possibly the 2nd most accurate result of this season (1st spot goes to Ratchet & Clank Vs. Jak & Daxter). And I know I'm not the only who agrees with this result

However there are some tiny details I'd like to point out. You guys used Newton laws before so you should know that 16 kilotons feat also applies to her durability as her body could withstand producing that force. Still wouldn't changed the result as Zoro could still overpower her

As for the animation, it was incredibly good and I enjoyed it :D but the way Erza died was pretty gruesome (this is probably my inner FT fan speakin there but that's the only thing I really disliked from this fight)

Overall, great episode! And a Nice Job with the research... (still I'll never forget the horrible mistakes you guys made during this season)

They didn't say that she couldn't, and that would apply to Zoro's superior attacks as well. :[]

I don't think that there's any bias here. Granted, I hated that Ace beat Natsu in One Minute Melee, but it's not really worth getting your trunk in a knot over. If anything, it just goes to show how OP a certain fandom's universe is.

I don't dislike One Piece. I've never watched it, but I have researched it. And it seems like the anime equivalent of The Simpsons: a long-running show that started out phenomenally, amassed a huge following over time, and eventually amassed enough fame that it could weather the storm of seasonal rot (breeding a huge controversy over its quality as a show).

But I hated this battle, not because I watched my waifu die, but because I hate Zoro's character. Read up on my other comments to find out why (start with the most recent ones, please).

I've never watched One Piece myself. I was kinda disappointed Ezra lost, but it didn't trigger me enough to write an essay-length comment about why they were wrong or whatever. Zoro might be stronger on paper, but in my head-cannon, Ezra had some new plot-armor and the power of friendship for the win ;D

Youtube comments are gonna be brutal, but I'm sure these guys are used to it. They knew what they were getting in to, putting two shonen anime protagonists against each other, one of whom is a popular best-girl, while the other is...? Again, never seen One Piece, but the fans in the comments below seem to love the guy.

Ezra still wins in my head cannon, your science be damned (FRIENDSHIP SAVES THE DAY AGAIN, BITCHES) ;D

I've never seen One Piece, Zoro sounds op. One Piece fans, does he feel op in the show? Or is One Piece just further along in their power curve? They are, after all, several hundred episodes ahead of Fair Tail. I've been thinking about watching it, but I don't really like shonen that takes itself too seriously (I'm looking at you, Naruto); I'll save my feels for slice of life anime, thank you xD

Edit: I guess what I'm asking is if One Piece has a good shonen-battle-spectical to back-story/character development ratio like FT/HxH, or errs on the side of DBZ/Naruto.

There is a ton of deep emotional depth in One Piece, I've watched every episode and I can call myself a big fan. And while it dips into the OH GOD MY FEELS territory it also has massive amounts of humor, that Zoro's shirt catching fire thing in this fight is the kinda thing that happens a lot.

And while Zoro is incredibly powerful he's not OP, and has gotten beaten down a few times, dude just has crazy stamina. There's more to Zoro then being a great fighter, but in DEATH BATTLE we look at fighting prowess, not character depth and development, show would get to long if we did that.

Yes, it does. Characters are given good motivations for what they do. Even their quirks are given good motivation for what they do. But it still has great humor and action. I'm not really a fan of Fairy Tail(for many reasons), but I think if you like FT you'll like OP. That said, is Zoro OP? Now...he might be. After the time skipped, he has yet to find an opponent worth his time and he has fought some insane opponents since then. Maybe give it some time, but Zoro is a little too strong now.(still like him).

Although i can abree with the ending i disagree with erza's stamina the epispde where the thunder legion fights everyone in the guild and erza takes out like all those bombs those all affect her body and put her through way more stress than i think you give that credit for...

She does use that stupid defenseless armor in alought of fights though...

    • Arsafoth

Zoro beats her in that category as well when he got struck by a 30,000,000 Volt lighting strike from Enel, which in comparison is equivalent to surviving the electric chair 1,500 times in a moment.

      5XoJhBS.jpg

He was already severely injured before the strike, not to mention that was relatively early in the series.

    • flaming_boosh FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold the idiot of doom!!!!!

scientifically speaking. getting hit by electricity isn't going to kill you. 30 million volts doesn't really mean anything. you can get hit by 3 trillion volts and live. it is about the amperage that makes it deadly. yeah it is going to hurt but you can still live through it. That being said. if you want to get technical the thunder palace is way more destructive than what Enel threw at Zoro. Erza took 300 lacrimas worth of power. If each lacrima contained the same amount of power as a bolt of lightning. that is 1 billion bolts multiplied by 300 in an instant. That would equal out to 300 billion volts of electricity.

    • Arsafoth

Enel's basic attacks obliterate islands and he can warm up metals (his pure gold staff) in a second to the point in which he can shape them to his liking, meaning he heated it up to 1,064 °C in an instant. With his bare touch. His strikes are hotter than the surface of a white star when he barely tries.

Enel is lighting itself so if you are going to strap that feat off Zoro then not doing the same to Erza would be hypocritical of you.

Either this feat doesn't matter for either of them or Zoro outclasses her by a thousandfold. Your choice.

Ok this must be a fan favorite, there was so many different things in Erza's favor you did not cover, for 1 how she can figure out a lot about her opponent strength and weakness which was shown in the Anime Erza vs 100, (which was more exiting then in the Manga), She had also survived countless battles where others would of died, like when she used her many swords on the lighting balls in the dragon dome that Luxis  used that dished out 2x the damage then you give it, and she has seen things faster then those bullets you mentioned in your analysis. You for got about the time when she fought Luxis when he moved at lightning speed. And that is with out that armor. There are lot more you missed in your analysis to mention here. But I am not saying she would still lose for I do not read one piece or watch that anime, So I can not say if you missed other things in Zoro case either.

Yes Erza would constantly switch armors to find Zoro's weakness. The problem being Zoro has no exploitable weaknesses so Erza would just waste more and more magic looking for a weakness that doesn't exist, ergo wasting magic.

@MaxOfFewTrades I don't disagree with the result of this battle. There are only a few characters in fiction who are at Zoro's level AND stand a feasible chance of beating him (one of which being Samurai Jack, in that canon proves he is faster than light and that his sword can cut through metal similar to adimantium). But that doesn't mean that I like this battle. To the contrary: I hate it for the same reason that Dragon Ball Z fans hate Goku vs. Superman. It's a case of watching a beloved anime character get destroyed by another, more-or-less unstoppable opponent. Plus, I looked into Zoro's character before and after this Death Battle, and I realize that Roronoa Zoro embodies my least favorite character archetype ever (Qrow from RWBY is another good example).

1.) Showy Invincible Hero? Check. The acquired demeanor of a Smug Super? Check. Overall deficit of situations that balance out his ego and keep him away from Mary Sue territory? Check. Put all of those tropes together, and you get a character that I cannot stand. And Zoro is the quintessential fulfillment of all of this put together. That isn't the only reason I hate Zoro, but if I had to pick just one, this would be it.

2.) Before I list this reason, let me clarify something right now. It is not fair to judge the characters of an anime you enjoy, because 99% of Japanese anime is designed to keep the viewers' opinions and attitudes right where they need to be. I.e. having people love Zoro because he's awesome, having people root for the Straw Hat Pirates even though they're criminals, etc. That may be a staple in most fiction, but anime takes that method story telling, brings it to the forefront, and turns it up to eleven.

That being said, I am thoroughly convinced that the biggest defining quality of Zoro's character is his awesomeness. His otherwise unlikable character uses the Rule of Cool as an impenetrable shield that is further supplemented by all of the other tropes that go into shaping the attitudes of an anime fan. But, approaching from outside the appeal of One Piece, I've done my research and seen that Zoro is overall a big jerk. Subtract everything that is shared by every member of the Straw Hat crew (up to and including awesomeness), and Zoro is a lazy, brusque alcoholic that tries to pass off as a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. But, free from the bias that comes with the fandom, I see a character that is dangerously close to being a Jerk Sue. Granted, he wasn't always like that, but a guess that figures considering One Piece's decline in quality as an anime.

For people who try not to think about their fandoms, this approach works wonderfully. But for people like me, I just see it as a poor excuse for lazy writing.

I could go on, but I already went into this in greater detail in an above comment (use the browser's "find" function to search "Okay, I got a little angry when I first watched this"). Frankly, I wouldn't mind Erza losing a Death Battle if it was done well, like it is here. But against someone like Zoro, who frankly needs to lose before his character can progress, it just strikes me as distasteful.

I really liked this matchup. I like both characters, and I wasn't at all surprised with this outcome. While Erza is a bonified badass of her own rank, Zoro is just a damn monster. That said, I can't think of very many anime characters that could stand up to a counterpart from One Piece. The writers are very good about creating escalation after every season, and with how long One Piece has been going they have practically become living catastrophes. Well done.

    CAUSE I FUCKING CALLED IT!!!!

Note: I watch and Read both of these shows and I knew immediately when I found out who was fighting that Zoro would win. Why? Cause that Pica thing wasn't just the one cut, I believe there was that cut, and two or three more cuts dividing him (Pica) further into sections while he tried to find Pica's body. How did this work? Well whatever part of Pica stopped moving and "died" meant the body of Pica was in the other section. So he kept going until he found (and I believe killed) Pica. One thing to note here is that that's just the example I'm using for this part. He's also incredibly lucky (one of his swords is or was (pretty sure it got rusted in CP-9 arc and thus he lost it) cursed. How did he test this curse out? By tossing the sword up and sticking his arm out. It rotated around his arm as it fell and he remained unscathed. And when I say cursed, I believe what they said was "its previous owners all died because of it.") That's just the tip of the iceberg for him. As far as Erza is concerned all of her victories are pretty narrow, plus she relies on her magic and armor, Zoro can essentially go until his stamina runs out, and that margin is WIDE between her magic power max and his maximum stamina. Plus there is her predilection to go into Clearheart a lot, and considering Zoro can do all the shit he's pulled, the only armor that MIGHT present any sort of trouble is her defense armor, and it has been broken before, from the Jupiter cannon... so even that wouldn't protect her from Zoro. Anyway, good fight, I knew what the outcome was, but loved it anyway.

    • JasonCelic

Actually we have one armor that we have only seen once that is her best armor. She called the armor Fairy Tail, also Erza has been shown to do feats quite similar and even superior to Zoro, also if you want to talk about Stamina, how about fighting two people with power comparable or even higher than most guild masters, defeating one and stepping away from the other to deal with over 100 lacrima's that hit you with double the damage that is required/ used to destroy them and not only taking the damage but using most of your magic reserve to do so AND surviving the hit that came right after, this same hit from one leaving MOST of the members of your guild unable to move.

The sword that got rusted was the one that the shop keeper gave him, he still has the cursed sword.

    • Rogue_Arcadia

@JasonCelic He's been hit by a guy made of lightning, dived into pain, and again, that Pica bit.... more than just the one cut. Also as they mentioned he has taken a shitload of damage and just stood there and refused to die. The idea of "well if Erza just" doesn't work. Why? Because she swaps armor as she fights, she's used to an enemy that uses magic, and thus has stamina tied directly to the limits of their magic. On the other hand, Zoro has fought many different fighters throughout the series with varying levels of stamina, mostly moving towards the higher end.

    • Rogue_Arcadia

@redRhino64 right you are, though he did receive two from the same guy, so I kept forgetting which one he lost.

  • WonPeace

To the Fairy Tail fans that are complaining, somewhere in this comment section it was addressed (by a staff member) that all her armors were thoroughly researched and taken into consideration. Screwattack probably settled on the variety of armors that were the easiest to animate or that would provide the most exciting battle. They also didn't draw from all of Zoro's  Santoryu style nor were any attacks drawn from his Ittoryu, Nitoryu and Mutoryu. It just wouldn't be practical for the animation to use everything they have. The battle is just for entertainment purposes. They're not saying those are the specific armors Erza would use nor are they saying those are the only attacks Zoro would use. Though, they're right that Erza does have tendency to rely on the Clear Heart Clothing armor when her back is against the wall. In the end, it didn't matter which armor Erza had used because her versatility advantage wasn't enough to cut it. Zoro had the superior strength/destructive capacity, speed, durability, and swordsmanship. Case closed.

@WonPeace Yeah. I would expect nothing less of ScrewAttack. But as for me, I am a Fairy Tail fan complaining that Zoro won. Not because Erza lost, but because Zoro won.

Why do I dislike that you ask? Because Zoro embodies a character archetype that I cannot bring myself to enjoy. Here is the formula: Showy Invincible HeroSmug SuperBreak the Haughty = (what I like to call) The Insufferable Badass. If a character fulfills this equation without some kind of adequate justification, chances are that I will hate their guts. I was able to put my finger on this when I researched Zoro's character (I was excited to see Erza in a Death Battle, although personally I wanted her opponent to be Lighting from Final Fantasy XIII). I knew about it before, but it wasn't until then that I was able to define the exact reason why I hate characters like that.

Granted, this doesn't have to be the case. If each component of the above formula is justified, then it makes for a great character (Qrow from RWBY is a good example of this). And they can be protected by the Rule of Cool or the Rule of Funny, but only if those rules are followed in a way that isn't lowbrow or cliched. Sadly, Zoro tries to fall back on the Rule of Cool with a sad lack of inspiration: tactless violence (mostly due to the mature nature of One Piece) and cookie-cutter anime staples (likely due to One Piece's age, in that it started when these cliches were less cliched).

Argue with me if you want, but characters like this just suck.

I feel like the underestimated the lay of the land x factor. Zoro would have no clue of any of the surrounding landscape and would be clueless where as Erza might have been more familiar of everything around her which could have given her the edge in the battle. Not to mention she could have used her seduction armor which could have given him a fatal case of nosebleed lol. But you can't really argue the power gap between them though so I'd give it to Zoro in the end.

Review: A good fight, but lacked in pacing. Great animation from Cruz once again, good research, & great special voices by Tang and Barr; However, the pacing was more slower than ever, and there was also more things that could've been added in Erza's part. All are my opinion though of the episode. The Next Time did got me off guard at first, but now with the puzzle fully coming together, I mostly think the Final Episode will totally be for 'Laughs & Fun' while being a great conclusion to Season 3 (HINT: RED VS PINK). Overall Score: 7.4/10. Can't wait for the DBC for tomorrow!!!

She didn't really survive much compared to Zoro, and yes I am calling out the pain amplifying feat, only the pain she 'felt' got worse, not the strike itself. In other words a blow of wind is still a blow of wind.

      TL;DR

You can endure the pain of getting your arm cut off, doesn't mean you had the durability to withstand the blow nor the speed to avoid it.
