He doesn't usually murder people. He mostly just hospitalizes them with so many physical wounds and in so much pain that they wish they'd pull the plug and perform assisted suicide, plus the occasional coma.

Now that she mentions it, the Nolan Batman's attitude towards the Joker, like not letting him fall to his death at the end of the movie, is kind of hipocritical given how he let Raz die.

Okay, in Batman's defense in the 1989 Batman climax, he wasn't actually trying to kill the Joker; he was latching him to a stable object so that he couldn't get away. I'm more disturbed that the gargoyle broke so easily. Has the church never undergone inspection to make sure that a large chunk of structure, say a gargoyle, wouldn't break and fall on some poor bystander. Now Batman Returns... yeah, that's a lot of Bat-murder.

Detective Comics 27. When Alfred Stryker pulls a gun on Batman, Batman punches him in the face so hard that he breaks through the steel railing behind him and falls into a giant tank of acid. And Batman doesn't even try to grab the guy when he see's him falling. All he says is "A fitting end for his kind." This is later retconned so that when Fred Stryker pulls a gun on Commissioner Gordon, Batman kicks him over the rails, and he survives the acid bath and becomes the joker, but come on, we all know what really happened.

I want to say some deaths are unavoidable, but many of these seem pretty avoidable. Especially that last one.
