Fan Art Friday is back! Last week, we got some incredible art from you, and can't wait for you to see the winner this Friday! Just keep your eyes peeled on the front page of RoosterTeeth.com! One of your works of art will be featured in Becca's Journal! Also, be sure to check out BIGBITE.Media for last month's winners and stay tuned for the May issue to see all of this month's!

Read on for rules, tips, and more!

In order to create more interesting content, we're going to ask that you give us a little background info on each piece, so we can write about it when you win!!! Please copy-paste the following into your entry and fill it out!

      • 1. What's your name?
      • 2. Where do you live?
      • 3. What do you do?
      • 4. How did you create this piece?
      • 5. How long did it take?
      • 6. What was your inspiration?

PROTIPS for the best shot at winning:

      • Maximize your votes. While getting the most votes does not guarantee victory, you must be in the top 5 to be selected!
      • Enter early (the earliest entries have more time to get votes)!
      • Join and follow the BIGBITE group to get a notification when we launch each new contest!
      • If people liked it, but it didn't win, enter it again!
      • Make sure the post shows up correctly--direct links tended to do far worse than embedded images.
      • Get on your social media accounts and tell your friends to vote for you! Don't forget to give them the direct link to your post. (That's the hyperlink on your post number, kids!)

So, here's the rules (updates in bold):

      • Upload your fan art to this thread.
      • Copy and paste the above background info on your piece and fill it out.
      • Need help uploading images here? CLICK HERE.
      • All visual art is welcome (including 3D art/sculpture and cosplay!)
      • One entry per person, per week. If you submit more than one image in a single post, you will be judged on the first image. Multiple images of the same 3D item are permitted.
      • Previous entries may be re-entered, provided they have never won.
      • You may win multiple times, and previously being featured in BIGBITE Magazine does not preclude you from winning.
      • Entries must be received by 11:59PM CST on Wednesday, 5.11.2016
      • The top 5 modded posts will be selected as finalists (read: GO TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO VOTE!)
      • The winner will be selected by BIGBITE and/or RT staff. In the event of a tie in the selection committee vote, the piece with the highest number of mods will be selected.
      • Winner's art will be featured in Fan Art Friday on RoosterTeeth.com, as well as on BIGBITE.media

If you have any questions, shoot me a message.

Good luck, and we'll see you on the front page!

      Sincerely,

      Matthew "Retrograder" VanDeZande

Legal crap we should probably say so that nobody gets sued: By entering art in the contest, you certify that this is, indeed, your own work. BIGBITE and Rooster Teeth maintain editorial control of all art, and may deem any work ineligible at their discretion, for any reason. By entering art in the contest, you grant BIGBITE and Rooster Teeth full rights to reproduce and use your art; however, you will receive proper attribution for your work. BIGBITE and Rooster Teeth reserve the right to alter, end, or cancel this contest for any reason at any time, without prior notice.

    • New website, new review, new all-the-things!

      ALousyCopilot BIGBITE Staff

So about two weeks ago, I purchased the domain "RetroGrade Productions," which was exciting in itself! It took me about a week to design it and figure everything how I wanted it to be figured, but I am especially proud of the result! I spent a week re-sharing my first seven RetroGrade Reviews, and just last night I posted the first all-new review to the all-new site! So if you have a minute, please check out my new review here: http://www.retrogradeproductions.com/retrograde--8...

I have a ton of really cool ideas for the new site, and I've already started working on each one! So stay tuned, tell your friends, tell your family, tell your dogs, don't tell your cats, and shoot me a line here or to MVRetrograder@RetroGradeProductions.com to let me know what you think!

      Cheers, love :D

    • Letters From the Editor - #2: A Letter to Everyone

      ALousyCopilot BIGBITE Staff

      To everyone,

I originally had much grander plans for this letter to all of you, but the more I wrote, the more it seemed to lose its meaning. So for today, I will be as brief as I can.

On this morning fourteen years ago, I was just a sixth-grader sitting in the Commons of Ashland Middle School playing Golden Sun on my GameBoy Advance. I had no idea what the Pentagon was, I had never heard of the World Trade Center or, as they were otherwise called, the Twin Towers. I had never met a Muslim, and I had never heard of the religion of Islam. I had no concept of what true terrorism was. I was just a kid playing video games before school.

Obviously, by the end of the morning, much of that changed.

I am not writing today to push an agenda or pick a fight. I am here because I know there are people who will do those things today. I am here to ask all of you to just take a moment. It doesn’t have to be now – it can be whenever you want. Just take a moment and think about where you were that day, have a moment of silence, and be with the people you care about. And, y’know, maybe pull out an old, portable video game system, make sure it still works, and play one of your favorite video games.

      Until next time,

      Retrograder

    • Letters From the Editor - #1: The Rules of Writing

      ALousyCopilot BIGBITE Staff

      To the writers,

There are two relatively unspoken rules for being a writer. The first is to know your audience – understand why they are your audience, what they expect from you, and what you must do to maintain their following and respect. The second rule – which I am stressing today – is to stick to your content. Your content is what you know. It is your area of expertise. It is what earns you your credibility as a writer.

As many of you surely know, election time is coming to the United States of America, which means politicians and political-hopefuls alike will be vying for attention in whichever ways they can. Ideas, opinions, and policies have always spread like wildfire during these times, but this circulation is something that has increased exponentially in both swiftness and volume since the genesis of social media.

And this, ladies and gentleman, is where you come in.

Unless you are a political writer, do not – I repeat, do not – bring your political views into your public persona. If there is something you perceive to be so egregious that you feel you must go on the internet about it, take it no further than a private, personal page. Your job, your responsibility, as a writer is to bring people of shared interest together. The second that you begin to attack a person or an ideology, you risk alienating at least half of your audience. And that’s not just the people who disagree with your way of thinking. As soon as you put on the internet something that can even be perceived as remotely divisive, you chance a firestorm that will drive away everyone who does not feed on negativity. The readers who come to you for an escape from all the madness will find their comfort elsewhere, and you will be left only with trolls, political crusaders, and mean-spirited keyboard warriors.

Whining about politics or sharing some meme from whichever political spin machine you drink the Kool-Aid is not worth losing the viewership or the respect of the readers who come to you for relief. Whether you are writing about music, movies, books, or, like myself, video games, you are a part of a medium that is designed to bring people together and give them a place to go when they want to be happy. So please, writers, always think first about your readers before you think about having a political agenda.

      Until next time,

      Retrograder

So after a long hiatus, I finally have a new review written and posted!

    • RetroGrade Reviews

      ALousyCopilot BIGBITE Staff

I know that currently nobody reads my page here on RoosterTeeth, but hopefully that will change so in the mean time I will be posting links to my video game review blog, RetroGrade. So far I have five reviews posted, they are as follows:

      1) Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
      2) Star Fox (SNES)
      3) Crash Bandicoot (Playstation)
      4) F-Zero (SNES)
      5) F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (GameBoy Advance)

I have one more in the works that will be posted next Thursday at 5pm Pacific time, so if you're reading this, please head on over to RetroGradeReviews.wordpress.com and check them out! Also posted to that site is my dedication to Monty Oum, who has always inspired me as a creator.

      Thank you!

I like to think I'm a pretty cool guy all-around (and I'm TOTALLY modest about it ;D).

A little bit about me - former Navy, degree in English education, competitive gamer, lover all things Rooster Teeth!

Been a member here on the RT website for several years now, and I'm realizing that that's waaaay too long to be around and not be doing my best to be as involved as possible. So this is me trying, and I can't wait to see the kinds of cool people I can meet on here!
