Dear Spotify, Pandora, and all you customized radio services,

To me, "Discovery" doesn't mean "show me more of the artists and styles I already know." If you want me to discover something, look at my histories and show me things I don't already know.

Expand my horizons. Don't cater to my current ones. That's discovery.

    • Satisfactory is more than Satisfactory for me...

In Satisfactory, I'm one milestone into Tier 1 (which is the second tier). I'm liking it so far.

It's like the beginnings of a mashup between Astroneer and a Minecraft factory mod. The developers (who also made Goat Simulator), state that they expect early access to last for a year at least. Minecraft had a similar development, but Satisfactory is far further along than Minecraft and Astroneer were when they became available pre-release.

Now, I really, really wish I could stream it.

Full pre-release review here at the new site. (Access to the new site may be required.)

If streaming from home didn't end up looking like blurry LEGO pornography underwater, I'd totally be streaming Satisfactory this evening. *sigh*

Anyone here streaming that game today?

    • Lots of creative folks...

We have oodles of impressively (and enviable) creative, talented people in the extended RT family, but I often see artists doubting their art and abilities - sometimes to the point of self-censorship.

How do we fix that? What can we do to foster and encourage and embolden everyone?

When we give praises to the people, they seem to hit that Wall of Doubt. Surely, there's something that we can do to get around that.

("Extended Family" = "RT community regardless if employed by RT or not." I see RT employees doubting themselves, too. Everyone's the same.)

      Here lies Toeless Joe...

      They buried him raw.

      Quick on the trigger.

      Slow on the draw.

I was finishing up my twitter perusing and going to come here to type something, but RTWorld already popped up with this.

I was going to state how I appreciate everyone regardless which site each of you use. You all give me plenty of smiles and lots to ponder, and I consider everyone to be community without regard to which side of RT's employment line anyone is.

Probably one of the last few of my journals on this part of the site. I urge people to find their way to the new community site. Get familiar with it. Learn a new way of doing things. Hit that feedback button for ideas, but don't expect us to go backward. The new generation needs new methods even if us old folks prefer the way that things used to be. ...and now... the actual topic of this post.

I am still trying to avoid using the words based on the words "say" or "talk" when communicating through non-aural mediums like online social media (including live chat and twitch chat). To me, this text is not saying anything or talking to anyone. Listening is different from reading. Speaking is different from typing. We're distant.

I want to keep that distinction in my mind as much as I can. I feel like we're losing our Humanity by losing our Human connections. I don't want to let myself become convinced that this social media stuff is any kind of reasonable substitute for personal interaction.

When I refer to something that I may say or type, I try to use words based on "state" (such as stating this or that statement).

I don't always remember to do that, but I try. I would like others to do that as well, but I know that the modern culture is full of people who are convinced on some level of thinking that they connect on a personal level through these remote, text-only methods as if they were talking to each other in-person. I offer this only in hopes that people might understand my cautious distance when communicating through these methods.

Am I the only one who thinks that the AH Moonballs look like Chaurus eggs from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

      Chaurus eggs:

Or do I have that backward?

It certainly gives me a different impression of this:

Ghost in the Shell (2017 movie)

Going into this movie, I knew nothing. I never read the Manga and had no idea what this movie would be.

Now, a spoiler at the core of the movie without spoiling anything specific.

It's essentially a futuristic rendition of the Expulsion from Eden, but the views about God and Lucifer are reversed.

It was okay - not great, not awful. It felt abridged - shorted and simplified. So, I expect I would hold a different opinion if I read the manga.
