    • Nintendo's Wii U launch games will only run at 720p

In a recent interview Katsuya Eguchi, explains why Nintendo's launch games will only run at 720p rather than 1080p. In order for games to run at 60fps at launch, Eguchi says that 720p will be sufficient.

"I can't personally speak for third-parties and their circumstances, but at Nintendo we have different teams working on different games that take into consideration the resolution… and if they think that by focusing on 720p and a certain framerate to get a certain experience, than that's ultimately how they make their decisions. It's worth it to point out that we might consider using 1080p, but, for example, if we want to get 60 fps, at a particular stage of development, it may seem 720p is more realistic."

When talking about Nintendo Land, Mr. Eguchi explains that almost all the mini-games will run at 60fps except for one particular attraction.

"There's just one particular case of an attraction that, playing at the absolute maximum number of players, would take a framerate drop… but by and large, all will run at 60 fps. But for example, in the attraction that does have a framerate drop, we wouldn't make that concession unless we were sure the experience to the player was still up to our standards."

Some people are making a huge deal out of this, and others are blowing it off. What do you guys think? Is it acceptable for Nintendo to have their launch games run at 720p at 60fps, rather than 1080p at 60fps?

    • Smash Bros Wii U - Which characters will make the cut?

So, with people already making speculations about which characters will be added to the next Smash bros, why not see who will fail to make the cut?

Masahiro Sakurai has already said that is unlikley that the roster size will expand past 35, the amount that Brawl had.  We are going to make room for 8 new characters, meaning 8 other characters from Brawl are going home. All original characters from the N64 version are automatically safe.

Here  are all the characters from Brawl, WHO WILL BE VOTED OFF THE ISLAND?!

Similar to what Ryan did last week with the retro roster,  leave your answer in the comments about which characters you think should leave Smash. I will tally up the results by the weekend!

    • [Community Showcase] Don't expect new Smash Bros. anytime soon

Masahiro Sakurai has reiterated to fans in a recent Nintendo Power interview that the newest installments of the Smash Bros series will not be coming any time soon. At E3 2011, Nintendo announced two new Smash Bros titles for the Wii U and 3DS. Sakurai has stated that the games are in their very early stages, and that little progress has been made. Sakurai plans to finish Kid Icarus: Uprising, which is set to release March 22 in Japan before even starting on the newest Smash Bros games. Sakurai said:

"I can't really say anything until things settle down with Kid Icarus, and a lot of it will depend on the team that I end up assembling for Smash Bros. It may take a while, but I think your patience will be rewarded."

Bad news for us Smash Bros fans, but I think most of us already knew this. Hopefully Sakurai will start another Smash Bros Dojo website for the new games. That was a lot of fun to check each morning.
