The ongoing Dark Souls Saga (Original - No DLC)
What started out as a simple "I can beat Dark Souls" challenge has turned into a continuous quest to beat my personal best.
Challenges along the way:
- Getting out of Northern Assylum (not a typo)
Damn near rage quit even before getting back to the Ass Demon. Hell, figuring out I didn't need to beat him with a broken pig-sticker took some time. Finally saw the escape hatch and cowardly ran away.
Once I was less weakly armed and bettered protected, beating the Big Ass was merely a brutal challenge.
- Now, WAT DO?!
It was mostly figuring out the mechanics of the game and letting it come to me. Slow and steady became the norm (which suits me just find since I like to grind away). However...
- Skellies won't stay dead!
Yeah, figured out Divine Weapons later on...
- Pygmatoids have strength in numbers!
Found that getting that Pygmy Sticker (called Estoc) is an early game key that unlocks their wretched deaths.
- You don't have to kill ALL of the things!
Sure, it was a great way to learn the game, but dayam... you can find your soul lost deep in The Depths wishing you had a way out... and come to find you HomiePhones (and even that Dark Sign) can get you out of there.
No. Just... no. Most of this can be avoided, but I do dash through (love that Swamp Ring) to get a Green Rock and Stanky Gas and a Large Rock for later (as well as Mildred to handle Charlotte). Oh yeah, got to have some Fungal Drugs just to deal with the nasties).
Bitch loves to puke. She needs to see a doctor about that heartburn. Pitch spells/arrows from a distance and let Millie take care of her.
- Nasal Discharge
Yeah, was a bitch, found a place to plunk with arrows, then the Interbutts showed me 'The Special Place' and now it's the easiest.
- Minotaur Demon
Yeah, another Rage Quit are, until I found that I could launch Toxicity over the wall.
- Bridge Firebird
Yeah, fucker has endless OJ. Plunk it from below or just never deal with it.
Skinny bridges are bad. Swinging axes are bad. Skinny bridges with swinging axes are ragingly brutal.
Ugh... still have issues (wonky controller is wonky). Estoc the Pig-Sticker comes in handy. Homing Soul Mass works wonders on Knife-throwing spiders.
- Fucking Dragoon Archers!
Total ASSES, until they discovered Poison. Now, it's a scheduled pee/drink break while they whither away (just like that Bull Demon mentioned earlier).
Just... How I beat them the first time with just Estoc, alone, was one of the greatest grinds I've ever done. I believe I called it quits right after that with my first character. Now, I get Jolly Co-op to assist and simply use Magic (Sorcery or Pyro - don't matter to me)
- Hydro Thunder
How do you even try to beat it? You can't even get close to it! Oh wait, simply try sprinting across and toward it. Found my Safe Space! (at first I used to just rain arrows down on it from The Garden, but that took some time).
- The Lich King
Yeah, his respawning Skellies are a menace. Just bring your Buffed Divinity and smite them early, then simply deal with Nito with your preferred method of dealing carnage.
- The Four Queens (another Rage zone)
. . .
These bitches... These raging bitches . .
You better bring some Super Cereal Majicks and/or your bestest BAW (Bad Ass Weapon). Oh, and know how to time your rolls/dodges just right (and be quick with the killings, because they love company).
- Lord I-Fly-Through-The-Air-And-Smite-You-With-Fire-And-Steel!
Yeah, he took me awhile to figure out. Alone, I simply play Dosido around a pillar with him and simply grind him down. Later, I just bring along Sir Jolly Co-op to join in the fun.
Blighttown Bridges can go suck a dick. Avoid them.
Master Key is Bestest Key - don't leave home without it.
Poison is your friend. Share it with others.
Ranged weapons. You can't get hurt if they can't hit you (unless they have ranged).
Ring of Favor and Protection. Get it early by kicking Fuck Face off of the ledge
Buffed Divine Birdie Halberd is a great all-around devastation machine.
Minimal Armor for speed/quickness
But Buck, What IS Your PB?
5 hours, 53 minutes, 36 seconds
No glitches used.
I can see a sub 5:30, but it would have to be a flawless run.
I could have had a shot at it, had I not accidentally dropped down into Frampt's well and had to go back to Giant Armor Guy in Arnor Londo for Green Rocks.
