Editor's Note: FYI, on Best Buy's overflow warehouse, CowBoom, you can get a WiFi Vita (only the system) for $130. - See for yourself.
Hot on the heels of Japan getting a price drop, many gamers were wondering if such a move was going to happen in the west anytime soon. Right after the PS4 announcement, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida came out and said that we would NOT be getting a price drop anytime soon.
Fast forward to today, and a price drop is happening... Our good friends at Joystiq report that this price drop is happening at select Sony stores in the LA area, but only if you sign up for their data plan, which includes a free PSN game. Yes, that means this is for the 3G model, which comes with that data plan, that free PSN game, and a 8GB memory card (which I would like to see a price drop of, if not the system itself).
Now, what's the deal with this, you may ask? Well, there are various stories going around. Some Sony store employees are claiming that there is be a discontinuation of the 3G model. Some stores claim that this will only last until Sunday, and other stores had no idea this was happening.
No other stores are making such a move right now, but if this turns out to be true, could other retailers (like Best Buy or GameStop) follow suit? I really hope so! Sony really needs to sell some Vitas if more games (like Soul Sacrifice) are to be made by third party developers. Not to mention it'll take down one of the barriers that are keeping developers from making Vita games right now, should more people buy it at this price.
Regardless, I want to hear your thoughts, g1s! Do you think a PS Vita price drop will happen after all? Or will Sony not drop the price of the system, but drop the price of the memory cards (which IMO also needs to happan ASAP)? Let me know in the comments section below!
